Importance of Project/Issue:
This project was very important for the clinical aspects of Social Work. It was a tool that
allowed me to fully assess the client and her circumstances to better understand how to
advocate and provide appropriate resources, diagnosis, and treatment plans. It allowed
me to better support her by understanding what she was struggling with and then
allowing me to present with the treatment of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and
how it would benefit her for now and in the long run. By completing this project it
allowed me to understand her bio-psycho-social-spiritual and understand what kind of
diagnosis and treatment would benefit and fit best for her based on her experiences and
struggles.

Skills, Competencies &/or Capabilities Learned:

The intake, Treatment Plan and Rationale, and Clinical Intervention allowed me to gain
knowledge and experience in meeting several social work practice behaviors:

  • Readily identify as social work professionals
  • Develop, manage and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients within the
    person-in-environment, strengths perspectives.
  • Apply ethical decision making to issues specific to clinical social work
  • Identify and use knowledge of relationship dynamics, including power
    differentials.
  • Engage in reflective practice.
  • Identify and articulate clients’ strengths and vulnerabilities.
  • Evaluate, select, and implement appropriate multidimensional assessment,
diagnostic, intervention, and practice evaluation tools.
  • Identify and use practitioner/client differences from a strength perspective.
  • Use knowledge of the effects of oppression, discrimination, and historical trauma
on client and client systems to guide treatment planning & intervention.
  • Use the evidence-based practice process in clinical assessment and intervention
    with clients.
  • Consult with medical professionals, as needed, to confirm diagnosis, and/or to
monitor medication in the treatment process.
  • Develop intervention plans to accomplish systemic change.
